Hello. I took plastic cover off front bumper and tow hook screws in. Where is the hook? I assume its stored near spare tire ? I have not taken tire out so can't say for sure. Thanks

Just in case - check your manual - I think (as a Gen 3 Owner - not the "C") - the towing of any Prius is not recommended due to the risk of the damage of HSD.

The removable towing hook is for emergencies only, like pulling the car out of a snowbank or a ditch. You couldn't tow the car with it; it isn't even centered on the bumper.

Yes - I realize this. BTW - in most cars known to me the towing point isn't centered either front or rear :)

Is the bumper cover for the hook is removed with like a flat head screwdriver? Or by pushing it on one side and then it pops out like on other cars?

Think I used a flat blade screw driver on our 3rd gen. It's kind of easy to mess up the paint. A wider putty knife would be good.

Careful prying with my trusty/rusty Swiss Army knife blade worked just now.

Most of the repair info in the repair guide say to cover the screwdriver tip with tape to help prevent messing up the paint.

Maybe just put the tape on now so you don't forget? That screwdriver is too big for much other that prying off wheel covers, and the tape would protect them too.

    Does the drill of:

    1. Grip wheel cover through openings at 3 and 9 o'clock.

    2. Pull hard.

    3. Fall on your butt, hopefully with wheel cover.

    No longer work?

Supposedly, you can use an old credit card or similar, to insert and pry out the tow hook cover.
