A friend of mine with a 2006 Prius sent me this:

During this week that we are in DC, I took the Prius in to a dealer in Alexandria to replace the electronic information screen....right now, it is frozen and one has to control it from the steering wheel controls.

They gave me an estimate of $4,500 but said perhaps they could take it out and send it to Toyota for a refurbished unit for $1,500.

do you know where I might find the part at a lesser place?

I am not bothered by only having it work from the steering wheel as long as there is no safety issue. Any opinion? Many thanks

Any feedback, coments, suggestions and recommendations are welcome.
    Thanks

Would think since the steering wheel controls work, he is talking about the buttons on ther MFD itself????
Since all the MFD buttons are not working, button common ground problem....

If your friend can solder (or can find an electronics repair shop to do the repair) then refer him/her to this: Prius MFD

But the '06 shouldn't have the bad soldering jobs... sounds like
    some different sort of problem.
