we have saved all our gas receipts since new purchase of the Prius in March 07
We have spent $117.50 and have gone 3,130 miles on those dollars.

I can't even think how much gas cost would have been in our jeep we traded in that got 13 or so mpg. never really tracked it like the prius.

So how much have you spent on fuel and how many miles for the dollars spent.
hope that is clear as mud.

I have all the fill-up costs documented in Microsoft Money and all the refill amounts in Excel (in my sig). One of these days, I'm going to add the fuel costs to the spreadsheet.

However, whenever I think about the cost differences between driving the Buick Regal that I traded in versus the Prius, I think of the number of times the price of gas fluctuated while I was working on a single tank. In the Regal, I would have needed to buy during the fluctuations. But since my spreadsheet is not scientific, I'm not overly concerned.

I keep track of all my mileage. I had a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT that got 28 MPG combined. I babied that car and drove really slow. Now I have my 2005 Prius and on my first tank I averaged 48.5 (that is 60 % highway) and very cold weather. I filled up on 22.00 (and on the Eclipse I filled up on 36.00) But had to fill more frequently. I can go over 1 week on 22.00!!! I love it!

My old car was taking about $128.00 to $140.00 a month to keep fueled (depending on gas prices and my driving for that month). For March (the only full month I've had my Prius) my gas cost was around $75 - and that was with commuting 50 miles (total) each day plus numerous short jaunts on the weekends.

Fuel has cost me 4.4 cents per mile overall since 2001. It is the third largest component of total ownership cost, after depreciation and insurance.

:) My spreadsheet includes cost per mile (overall averages):

On my 2004 Prius (traded Nov 06 for my 2007): 4.9¢/mile

On my 2007 Touring Prius: 5.3¢/mile at 3,000 miles on odometer, still not broken in.
