Ok..... so maybe it is just my incompetence on this.... however, I was putting my second tank of gas in the 2016 and the Fuel Filler door will not shut...

Not only that but since the door will not shut, on my dash screen it keeps saying "Refill Ready" every 5-10 seconds.

Anyone else have this happen and know how to fix it.

    Thanks!

is the cap on tight? any debris? can you give us more detail as to what is happening? does it push shut all the way, but not latch?

Cap is on tight(I've even tried removing and retightening) - I have not noticed any debris. Lastly, yes - I can push the door completely shut, but it never latches.

sounds like the latch is not latching, but i have no idea why, i think it's electric, not a cable.

I'd agree - I know on my '09 GII there is a little nub that sticks out, and it seems the '16 is the same way but my "nub" went inside a black locking mechanism....basically, no nub is there to latch to.

Ohh well - guess its a trip to the dealership for me tomorrow.... :\

picture of a random prius gas area below - the "nub"that I speak of is at the 3 o'clock position.

i wonder if you could pull it out with some needle nose pliers, or a sharp object to pry it? maybe spray some lube in there.

I actually thought about that - but I was worried that if I damaged the "nub" - that maybe the gas door would never unlock....

probably something you don't want to fool with if you're not confident. you're under warranty, it's just the hassle of going to the dealer, i hate it.

agreed - luckily, it appears my local dealer has appointments tomorrow, so 4:30pm is mine.... barely 1k miles on the car... :p

I thought the new push button gas door release was more convenient then the old "pull" door lock mechanism that folks reported the cable would break... but maybe not. Ohh well cést la vie. Hopefully back in business tomorrow, :p

Thanks Bisco for entertaining my ramblings. :)

My wife was laughing when I told her earlier - our '09 has had ZERO problems..... our '14 had a minor issue with the radio that required one service trip(sold that one to my mother-in-law), so OF COURSE the new one had to break the mold. ;)

If the warning is annoying you, maybe tape it shut until you get it to the dealer?

Agree. Won't hurt to spray some WD-40 on the stuck nub... and try a quick press & release with your finger. Also, push the fuel door button in the cabin several times.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. (My fuel door feels like a 10-cent piece of tin. I sure hope I don't bump into it when open, and bend it.)

Please tell us what the fuel door issue repair entailed.
    What was the cause?

Yeah, but yours is the old-fashioned mechanical one, right? (Essentially the GEN III)?

On the GEN IV, as coast crusier mentioned, ours is electronic. The manual implies that before it even opens, something will occur (the tank will be vented, re-pressurized, or de-pressurized). Although, in my observation (for my 9 fill ups), pressing the button seems to result in an immediate release.

There are some things for which simpler is better. I think that fuel flap release is an example of this. :)

That sound just like the GEN IV. I guess in this respect, the pip was a bit of a preview of the GEN IV... ;-)
