    Hi All,
I have this funny little fan on the foot rest of the passenger side back seat. It sits on a pair of rail and generally gets covered with the floor mat. Do not know the usage. Can anyone assist me?

Please see the pic attached. I do have couple of other views as well.

Do you have Navigation display on your Prius. It looks like the computer for nav.

Yes I do have the NAV in my car however I cannot use it in New Zealand. If this the is computer, must admit that it's palcement is rather awkward.

it should be mounted under the LH front seat. It almost looks like it's in the rear seat foot well from the photo.

I understand NAV works with a DVD which has got the details about the MAP. My car has got a Japanese MAP. I find it difficult to believe that this would be the NAV unit. Where does the DVD go into?????

not really sure about the first gen DVD or if the map was burned to the rom in the computer. Is there an additional unit under the drivers seat as well? RH drive assumption here.

Classic models in Canada were not equipped with nav so don't have much else to offer on it.

definitely a computer of some sort... i dont know if unplugging it would be a good idea...

try it and see, but beware... unless its in the way, i would just leave it.

I would not unplug anything! Not unless you really know what it is supposed to do. Placed where it is it probably is not part of the car's operational system. But why take chances with your ca?. On the other hand, it looks like it's got enough cable that maybe you could shove it under the front seat and out of the way.

Is it screwed/bolted to the floor? Since Frank said it was supposed to be mounted under the front passanger seat, perhaps it came loose from its mounts.

not screwed or bolted..just plated on 2 rails..there are 4 little legs under this device and there are 4 holes on the rails as well..it places nicely on the rails..however it's very easy to lift as well..

Sounds like it was supposed to be up under the seat, and it came loose. Or is some sort of after-market thing that was intended to be mounted under the seat, and never was.
