Something Doug posted got me thinking about the role of gadflys and my 'ignore user' list. Now there are others who have their own advocacy positions. But as long as we can look at a common set of facts, their peccadilloes are more amusing than offensive. For example, the INOIQ, Volt and pure EV advocates. When I post a fact based, observation, we don't quarrel about that part of reality.

Now I have two on my 'ignore user' list. The longest running member only post one thing, every Prius fueling. If it were done in fuelly.com or the EPA web site, great! But to think their fuel receipt has even the slightest interest . . . not going to happen. Still, they are deaf to any pleadings so 'ignore user' makes us both happy.

The other is a gadfly who cut-and-pastes nonsense from other sites without evidence of critical analysis. When replies come back with the facts and data, this one falls into personal attacks. Amusing, we can list the names of 'enemies', like a well trained dog, they come out barking . . . the English term "barking mad" comes to mind.

Try as I might, I just don't have an interest to engage these difficult people any longer. One is deaf and the other makes personality attacks when confronted with 'inconvenient truth.'

Well, if they won't listen to reason, there's no point reasoning with them. There comes a time we have to leave those people behind and carry on.

When Bob mentioned cut-and-paste nonsense I thought he was talking about me.
I just do that because is seems many people will not RTFM, so to speak.
I agree some people just need to be ignored.

Wouldn't the 'longest running member' be Danny? Or is he no longer running? :D

I'm still learning things of value from the responses to that party, so will continue to engage despite its profanity and schoolyard tactics and insults.

But I won't try to convince anyone to shrink their Ignore list.

"..... And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet."

I generally ignore the Ignore User list because I'm pretty good at filtering out trash. I've had to use it 2-3 times in the past for people who pollute threads with pie-charts, pictures, or bile - but generally speaking I only have to use it on people who only hang in the Chuck-E-Cheese portion of the forum, and then only rarely or temporarily to 'clean up' a thread that I'm interested in reading for education or entertainment.

    Let's face it.
If you hang out in a kindergarten class, then you shouldn't be offended or irritated at tantrums.

    Scripture?
    How can you tell?
It was just something that I got off of the internet that most people regard as fiction.

No citation of Chapter and Verse, or translation.

I know and Doug's recent posting about CO{2} and paleo-temperature records, it matches what we'd discussed a couple of years ago. For me, the take-away is our climate has multiple variables including some random events. But attempts to claim these other contributions mean we can ignore man-made CO{2} ... well that is not wise.

A Unitarian, I wear my Bible on my sleeves and the teachings of Jesus in my heart. But Proverbs holds a special place that applies in this thread:
    • Proverbs 18:2-3
    • Proverbs 1:5-7
    • Proverbs 10:18-19
