The amendment was included at the behest of media companies, who routinely use freelancers and who, under the existing statute, could be punished for doing so by labor auditors.[/b]

Large companies are now free to hire freelancers without paying them the benefits entitled to full employees. Employers, moreover, will no longer be at the mercy of "the arbitrariness of auditors," says Armando Monteiro, the president of the National Confederation of Industry.[/b]
