Perfectly normal, it is not really a gas gage, it is called a guess gage! :)

When I got to work this morning I had >170 miles on the tank and the first pip still has not fallen (this is close to a record). It is quite common to get >100 miles on a tank before the first pip drops.

135 miles, then the first pip drops off.

Just don't ignore the *last* pip. When it starts to flash, buy gas immediately.

How long is very dependent on outside temperature during the fill up. Summer is 160 ish winter 90 ish miles.
