G'day, another Prius in Oz

    Hi Guys,
    just stopping in to say Hello. I am looking forward to my new Prius III i-Tech arriving in two days, and busily reading every on-line Manual and forum I can find. The Priuschat forum seems to be a great place, and active to boot.
    Stepping out of a diesel Golf (Rabbit) and will be interested to see if the Prius can match the 5.7 L/100km fuel consumption I got from that car.
    As for the rest of the car...I just can't wait to start playing with all the new gadgets.

    Welcome to the forum. It's a mine of information. There are quite a number of Aussie owners on here too to give you that antipodean perspective.

    5.7l/100km - thats about 50 mpg (UK) or about 41 mpg (US).

    You should easily be able to achieve that - and it's an automatic and petrol - so no diesel rattles.

    Welcome to Prius chat.

    I have had mine since November and have averaged 4.7l/100km the entire time. This is a mixture of city and country driving.

    My daily commute is only 20-25 minutes and going by the display, for the first 10 minutes the consumption is up around 9-10, after that it drops to around 2.5.

    5.7L/100km? That's my mileage when it's -40°C/°F! Once the car has broken in (and depending on which part of Australia you're in), you should be able to average 4.7L/100km with some tanks as low as 4.3L/100km or lower! I'm currently at 4.3L/100km thanks to 20°C daytime highs.

    -40°C/°F...Let's see that's..umm..cold! We tend to have to live with +40°C for about 4 months of the year! Wodonga is half way from Melbourne to Sydney.

    Anyway, thanks to all for the welcome. Great Forum. Tomorrow's the big day.

    It's more than cold. It's colder than your freezer!

    I remember an Aussie guy who came to work for us a few years ago and I was giving him a driver assessment in a Land Cruiser V8. He queried two switches near the handbrake. I advised that they were for the heated seats and he laughed as he didn't realise such things existed. I do remember him being quite grateful of them in winter.

    You don't want to sit on a cold leather seat that's been sitting in a cold car at -10c for 12 hours, let alone -40c :eek:
