Gen 4 is to (New Crossover!) as Impreza is to XV Crosstrek?

    Anyone good at Photoshop?
This is a wish that won't come true, but (I wish) Toyota would use the Gen 4 mid-cycle refresh to add AWD and "pull a Crosstrek". That is - raise the platform by 3 in. (75mm), add cladding around the wheel wells, and restyle the front and rear.
Granted, Subaru was an "Outdoors/AWD" brand already, but they created a very successful new car with this approach and I would like to see something in between the Rav4 Hybrid (Forester size) and the Gen 4 (Impreza in this example). MPG would suffer from the higher stance, but Gen 4 is stellar in that regard and would still blow away the Rav4 Hybrid EPA. And maybe we would get less tailgating to boot. :)

Toyota CH-R Hybrid is your answer (sort of). It's arriving next Spring with the Prius' powertrain. (No word if AWD will make it over to the U.S. In Europe, apparently hybrid versions are FWD while 1.2 litre turbo petrol versions have available AWD)

Also, Toyota Japan does sell an "outback" version of the Prius c called the Toyota Aqua X Urban, complete with jacked up suspension and body cladding (no AWD though).

Hmmm - that Toyota CH-R Hybrid sure puts UGLY into perspective.

Has it been announced that the hybrid drive train will be available in North America?

Also, there are rumors that the Lexus CT will be replaced with a compact SUV, maybe based on the CH-R. No official info has been released including whether it will have a hybrid drive train like the CT

I was told by someone at Toyota GB that Lexus was offered the C-HR but they passed on it, hence it went to Toyota.

I try to "sit on my hands", there are just so many strange, strange styling efforts coming along (ugh, just glanced up at the TV to see a Lexus front grill...). But it's good to hear someone calling a spade a spade.

You can't see out the back of the CH-R! Looks like the Lexus RX. I'm a fan of the styling(y). I'm guessing the reviews are gonna hate it for the styling!

No announcement yet as far as I know.

Also, the rumourmill is running wild with a subcompact hybrid SUV as a replacement for the CT200h. It might wear the UX name.

I guess Toyota didn't hear the question. I've seen the CH-R approaching (in print) and must look away.
It seems unlikely the HR-V and CX-3 will lose sales to that hot mess.
Perhaps they plan to out-juke the Juke?
But it will be interesting to see what kind of mpg numbers it puts up.

They should call it the Prius X.:) I think it'll be popular because all Toyotas are. Mazda doesn't sell too many cars. Their most popular is the CX-5. I just don't see to many super compact SUVs.

That CH-R looks gorgeous. Make mine in white. I'm going to the SF auto show in a couple of weeks. I hope they unveil it there as well. I've been eyeing the Honda HRV since it's debut last year. This looks like a direct competitor with better fuel economy.
We are still completely opposite in what we we like. Love the dichotomy especially since we both own a Prius.

What do you guys think the MPG on the CH-R will be? I'm guessing 42 MPG.

    Depends.

If it's using Gen 3 internals (like the RAV4 Hybrid), then 40mpg. If it's using Gen 4, 45mpg.

Toyota has to move to the 4th gen HSD sometime. If the CH-R is on the new TNGA, then I'm guessing they will use the 4th gen system. Isn't it easy to slap a CH-R body on the new TNGA platform since the TNGA platform is more universal with more cars?

That's true. The highway mpg may drag (sorry) down the average since it's a boxy car but city numbers should be good. I think Toyota can pull 45 mpg but if they have other priorities, I think your 42 might be more realistic.
