Gen3 Prius engine noise

    While I was on the highway I suddenly heard a strange engine clink clink clack clack. So I pulled over and had the car towed to my home. I have since since cleaned EGR and throttle body but the sound remains. Any I deas

    No, I just change my oil at Toyota. Toyota used Tech stream, but no codes showed up. According to the Toyota technicians, the clink clank suggested that something let go in the engine. Their diagnosis was rather vague. Also, I changed my head gasket in December.

    Filled, It is not losing coolant. Also, it has a new water pump. After the strange song the car lost power.

    get a cheap coolant pressure / vacuum tester.. run the engine and you'll see pretty quick if theres headgasket or crack..

    also check your timing, my 2007 had a timing chain get lazy and maxed out the tensioner, sounded like all the lifters were playing a techno song

    also, make sure your valve cover gaskets are good and the cover is clean, my shower port was clogged pretty bad at 141k miles and was not flowing sweet dinosaur juice to the cams..

    The head gasket was already replaced. The timing was checked, tensioner replace.I am suspecting rod bearing or VVTI Gear. I will love to post a short video, with the sound, but since I am new, I cannot.

    At what miles was head gasket replaced?

    At what miles was EGR and throttle body cleaned? Was that the first cleaning? Was the intake manifold (with its EGR passages) cleaned as well? How thorough was this cleaning; you did it yourself?

    Mine just did a clatter and shudder thing, no dashboard lights, no warning. Lost power quickly. Oil, fine, coolant, fine. No power to drive it at all. What do you think it could be?

    Nope, I wish. Coil(s) wore out. She's getting new coil(s) and spark plugs. About $740! This car is NOT cheap to drive, but it is 13 years old. I really hope I'm done with repairs for a while.

    I got 4 working coils off the junkyard for like $15 each. Where are you buying that it ended up being $740??? Thats crazy lol
