Picked up the cheapest aftermarket steering wheel available on ebay for the 3rd gen.
Total with $5 ebay app coupon was $125 shipped from japan.
    Arrived in <2 weeks.

Cast aluminum center section looks like it was the same toyota mold. The aftermarket wheel had grease applied to the spline. I almost wonder if they're reusing/molding stock wheels.

    Swap went easy enough.
trim tool to pop the airbag off
    19mm for the main nut
    Philips for the buttons/etc.

The sucky part is that it was 1-2* off center initially. Not enough to be a full spline off(8-10*) but enough to be noticeable. Adjusted the tierod ends by 1/4 turn to compensate.

This is a pseudo ‘piano black’ wheel?

    Yes

If i could have found a nice leather wrapped wheel for a decent price I would have gone with that. All the ones I saw were crazy expensive or tattered

They're all modeled after the Emerson fittipaldi E3 wheel basically until all the steering air bag in the nonsense goes on It is unfortunate

Not to sound like some line from a Japanese porno movie, but "Is it comfortable?"

I actually got a real nice used OEM leather one and some of the Toyota fake leather front seats for my Gen 3 from some guy parting out a Gen 3 locally. I suppose it was just being in the right place at the right time as I went out there to buy some other parts from him.

It is. I have about 5k on it so far.
    No signs of wear yet.

I would have preferred an OEM leather, but they're hard to find in good shape and more expensive than they should be.
