A TSLA stock holder, I know they still sell every EV they make and show an 18% operating profit. In China, they too sell boatloads of EVs with profits. Given my EV is 3x less expensive to run than the previous Prius or my PHEV in gas mode, China reaps an amazing profit as a country.

Ever wonder why gas is so cheap? . . . China doesn't have to buy so much. They reap a huge economic advantage gas-a-holics don't understand.

You can see everybody else's inventory from space too.

The difference is that they are dealership lots.

 

You should see the sea of Toyota trucks and SUV’s sitting at my local dealers lot.
But I’m sure they are mostly sold and waiting for pick up or delivery

 

If you mean operating margin...it used to be about that high, but only ~7% now

sales = 100
cost of goods sold = 70
gross profit = 30
gross margin = 30%
operating costs = 20
net profit before taxes = 10
net profit margin = 10%

 

I pass by a Tesla staging area just about every day. The lot fills up and a day or two later, it empties out. I know where they're going, they're all over the roads in NJ.

 

There is no "net profit margin" in the SEC filing. Looking at this accounting

sales = 100
cost of goods sold = 70 (includes operating costs)
gross profit = 30
gross margin = 30%
operating costs = 20 double counting
net profit before taxes = 10 included earlier in the report as part of operating costs
net profit margin = 10% double counting of operating costs and taxes​

I could be wrong. Find the pages that support this accounting in the Q2 2024 report. Always best to cite the source than imagined metrics.

my experience is from a private company only, audited by a cpa firm. i have zero knowledge of public filing requirements or tax reporting.

 

That was before we got in semantics discussion. That is why I posted a page from the Q2 2024, SEC filed, report.
