GM celebrates 75th anniversary of Suburban

It's a comfortable ride, sure, but the MPG really sucks! Here in Texas they are every freaking where. If I'm not mistaken, Texas is the top or second largest market for these behemoths. Drill, baby, drill!!!!

 

Martha Stewart drives (or used to drive) a Suburban.

In the lease for the office and studio space where her TV show is currently filmed, there's a provision that gives her the right to use the building's huge freight elevator to transport her Suburban to and from her space, and to park the Suburban inside her space.

 

Dang! Does she have a Tailgate BBQ show or something? Good Lord.

 

I heard GM was going to celebrate by having a huge oversized cake made, in a flavor nobody likes, with way too much icing. Then they'll offer everyone a piece and wonder why nobody is eating it, ultimately they will go potluck and ask everyone to contribute towards paying for the cake nobody wants.

I know of one of the original Suburbans, quietly rusting away in a garage. It used to be the delivery vehicle for a friend's family business. I had a picture around here somewhere....

You know, it's not as diva-ish as it sounds.

All over America, if a facility has parking or access to parking, leases for space in the facility will usually have parking provisions.

This particular facility is located way over on the West Side of Manhattan by the docks. The area is dodgy to say the least. If you go there at night, the streets are filled with hookers in nothing but their undies. So you can imagine why indoor parking within this facility would be highly desirable for its business tenants.

While this facility did not have parking, it did have this HUGE freight elevator, along with floors that could bear a lot of weight. In its former life, there was a railroad spur that ran under the building, and the freight elevator was built to carry one full railroad box car in it. The elevator would bring the entire box car to a floor where its contents would be off-loaded.

Give Martha Stewart credit. She drove a Suburban. She wanted space in this facility. And she simply needed -- and created -- a safe place to park her car. It's a good thing.

 

I used to think it was cool to park my motorcycle in the 'living room' (it was a basement suite, with garage doors, and not exactly finished) but an elevator for your car? Oooh. Aaah. Still, I'd consider it more honourable to carry your bicycle up the stairs.

 

At least Martha did time for her $46K "crime". The Goldman guys will probably get a slap on the wrist for the $Billions they defrauded investors.

The most efficient ones are 15 mpg? qood luck with that, once gas hit $5/gallon. So ... they went through BKO - no one wanted to buy the Hummer line ... yet they scuttled Saturn and kept the land barges. Wow, only GM could do that.

 

We rented a Suburban for a road trip last year, with 8 people in tow. Avg MPG: 13. Can't imagine what the city MPG would be like for these monsters.

How much does Martha Stewart weigh? Why would she need a vehicle this big?

 

It was a while ago. Don't know if it's still her ride of choice.

While it does make sense for Stewart to have a Suburban since she lives on a farm and probably has lots of towing needs, I still don't see why she'd drive it to the city for her daily shows. A fuel-efficient commuter would make more sense, and it's not like she couldn't afford one!

 

I didn't even know Martha was out of jail!

But the farm alibi ?? Sorry Martha, it'll no longer wash. she and the other trustees down at the honor farm will have PLENTY of room in THIS EV, and have room to spare. Comes in Class 5, 6, and 7.
