I was searching for Fuel Efficiency Calculators to answer another thread and came across GM's own Vehicle Fuel Economy and CO2 calculator. Too tempting to resist... I picked the best GM model I could think of...

Wow...I wonder how long before GM realizes this isn't working to their advantage, and they pull the page down? I never owned a GM, but I know the Cobalt 2.4L economy should be close to my old Spec-V economy, and wow, I'm saving hella money on gas alone. Good post, Bill :)

I love that the Hummer is not considered a gas guzzler, because "The gas guzzler tax applies to cars (not trucks) with low fuel economy."

Has "never" been taken in the pool? GM actually believes their Saturn is the competition for the Prius. :p

I want to go in my Prius. Just drop the seats and slide me in. Put "I'm going straight to Hell and getting 50mpg on the way." on my tombstone. :)

First they cry about the old numbers because it favors the Prius, then they post the old numbers?

Thanks to BIll showing this, I've tried to add an interactive Mileage Calculator to the Chicago Prius Group website (link in sig). I suppose I've succeeded in that it's interactive and it calculates, but I'm less than thrilled with the way it looks. Also, I'm looking for suggestions on how to make it "prettier" and more user-friendly.

Sorry to hijack the thread, Bill. But does anyone know how I can make the scroll bars in the Excel window go away and what else do you think I should add.

p.s. if you're suggestion if going to start with "there should be a "scrollbars='No'" setting" please save yourself the effort; I've tried that and both vertical and horizontal are set to "0".

I owned a GM in my teenage years, when I was young and stupid. I will NEVER buy another GM vehicle ever again, never owned a FORD and never will, not until at least they get their act together like Toyota or Honda, which IMHO will be NEVER, or at least in my lifetime.

    Yep, because it's true. :(

"Llight trucks" (includes SUVs, minivans, some vans, and pickups) are EXEMPT from any gas guzzler tax. "Light trucks" also happened to make up 50% of 2006 model year vehicle sales.

    See:
    http://suvs.about.com/od/fueleconomy/a/jf_gasguzzler.htm
    http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/info.shtml#guzzler
    http://www.epa.gov/otaq/cert/mpg/fetrends/420s06003.htm

To top it off, currently, vehicles w/GVWR of >8500 lbs. are EXEMPT from being even TESTED for EPA fuel economy and also therefore don't count against the automaker's CAFE #s. This includes vehicles such as the Ford Expedition EL, Hummer H1 and H2, Ford Excursion, Chevy Suburban 3/4 ton and others.
