May we all remember what happened five years ago and reflect.
May we all come together and confront this common enemy so that in a day in the not to far future no more innocent people will be harmed.
May we all return to a way of life in which terror or the threat of terror is no more.
    and,
May God Bless the United States of America.

Feeling much more emotional about all this today than I expected to after 5 years.

I've got the real-time stream of the events of 5 years ago on CNN Pipeline playing right now...man does it all come back. The chaos, the confusion, the fear......

thanks, dbermandmd, for such a thoughtful post. every time i see footage of the planes strike the buildings i cry. instantly, i remember the people that were trapped waiving for help only to see the buildings topple on them. the brave people that stayed to assist with saving lives are in my thoughts as well.

Except those that believe terror is a legitimate weapon - or those that wish to enslave others. There are people today I would definately NOT wish God's blessings.

A day for reflection and introspection, to be sure. One which is a terrilby heavy burden for me to bear, personally...as it is for us all.

Problem is, I think that God and religion are what have gotten us into this whole mess to begin with. Right vs. wrong; us vs. them; good vs. evil; deity vs. deity. When will we realize that the world is not one of polarity and absolutes?

I appreciate the well wishes (above) for God's blessings upon us all. But, frankly, it's a little presumptuous to make such a statement, don't you think?

Remembering the innocent lives lost this day 5 years ago is necessary. More because of their own courage then because of the situation that forced these people to stare death in the face and make choices that most of us cannot imagine making.

I agree with Pinto Girl in wishing for a change toward acceptance and tolerance for everyone of different views. Until we respect ourselves and others on an equal playing field there will always be conflict.

Let your "God," who you view as all wise, bless whom he will. Where was he when the buildings fell?

My explaination: There are non-violent people that lead an explempary life that leads others to want to follow their example.

Sadly there are many people throughout history that force their beliefs, often with violence upons others. Osuma bin Laden is a recent example of this group. Such people are sacreligious in my books and have little in common with God. Nothing is more repulsive than thugs claiming to be doing God's will - an oxymoron.

Yes, 9/11 was surreal - took 90 minutes to connect to CNN.com because their hits went up 160-fold.

I question that sometimes - probably in the same place he was while europe burned and 6 millions Jews were slaughtered.

I think that G-d tests people, "he" did not create a perfect world and those imperfections at times come back to bite us. That we all strive to arrive at a place that is better than today....

And now, it is time for us to step up so it won't happen again - that is his test.

I agree. He doesn't seem like a very nice guy at all. With all the testing that gets innocent children killed.

As Bertrand Russell said, "If God loved me half as much as my own mother, there would be no hell."

Did the guys who jumped from the towers pass the exam? These are the kinds of tests Saddam put his people through to prove their loyalty. Compared to God, George Bush looks good.

There is no "God"; it's absurd to claim that the senseless and needless acts of violence committed by the U.S. are in support of "him" or whatever it is that "he" is supposed to stand for.

If you do not want to believe in God, fine. Does that make it necessary for you to demean or insult people like me who do?

Seriously? You believe in God? Well, did you know that lying is a sin?
