Good morning, folks! I'm a Great Lakes area Midwesterner currently EOL'ing an oil-guzzling '09 Buick Lucerne that gets, eh, 18mpg highway (on a good day.) I'm really hoping to snag myself a used Prius somewhere around/under $5k, as I'm currently stuck with a part time job due to heart issues, since I'm hoping it'll reduce my weekly gas bill, haha! Figured I'd drop in here for solid advice, or at least well-wishes for my search — there's nothing as trustworthy as a forum for that. I know I'm coming in with a shoestring budget, but at least I've got some time before the Buick fully kicks it. Thanks for having me! :D
(And hey, if anyone has a really cheap — and I mean REALLY cheap — deal on a Prius, I'll drive...)

    welcome!
tbh, unless you're a serious diy'er, a corolla would be a better option. cheaper to repair, and any mech can work on it.
    all the best!

Need a 2016 hatchback or newer (excluding a Prius Wagon) for low cost maintenance.

Otherwise you can get hit with a $2500 hybrid battery, a $2400 master cylinder, a $2,000 head gasket or a $5,000 engine rebuild. I second a Corolla that will double your mpg without x10 normal car repairs you get with a hybrid.

The Prius won't ride like a Buick.
