A new taxi company -- Green Cab -- has started hauling passengers around San Francisco, and its name refers not only to the snazzy paint job on its cabs but its vow to drive only hybrid and alternative-fuel vehicles.
Launched this week with just a single Toyota Prius, Green Cab is a worker-owned company founded by eight San Francisco cabbies. Within five months, they expect to have at least five cabs on the streets.

Good for them. I hope they do well. Start small and grow.

Cool, but it could lead to a South Park sequel.
I have seen two Pricabs in LA, one white, and one yellow and black, but no green ones.

They really need this in here NYC. I don't see why they can't change it to Prius since it will save them tons of money on gas.

Actually, they DO! I spotted yellow Prius taxis MANY times in the City. My other friends told me they spotted Hybrid Civic and Camry as well. Not sure if the Camry is hybrid or not.

In Vancouver, BC they're so common it seems every second or third cab is a prius. I'm sure I'll be seeing Camry hybrids too, if they're not already around. Hopefully fleets will start using them everywhere, there was a local cabbie that logged something like 400,000 km (250k mi.) on his.

Very nice on the high miles. I wonder if that is a sort of milegae record for a Prius?

I'm sure this has been posted here before, it's a blog about a Vancouver taxi driver who has had a few

Prii, and Toyota has tested them because of their high mileage.

I think Frank said the last count of that cab was 450,000kms or 500,000kms?

FWIW I spotted a HyCam in Boston this afternoon. It makes so much sense for cabbies to run hybrids. If anybody is going to make up for the "hybrid premium" it's them.
