groaning noise in front suspension while taking tight turns at low speeds. what could that be? i'm going to get under the car this weekend (weather permitting). what should i check? the car has 82,000 miles and nothing major replaced yet. brakes and tires are in great shape.

How long have you been noticing the noise? How loud is it? Is it only when you turn right, or only left, or both directions? Is it possible to have someone with you to record the sound? What are the roads like in your neck of the woods (a lot of potholes, road work, go over a lot of speed bumps, etc.)?

to qualify it more, it should be better described as creaking rather than groaning, although there is not much difference between those 2 i guess. i'm also not positive of location. suspension is my guess based on the turns part (both ways). yes to potholes, work, and speed bumps.
i noticed it in the last couple of weeks and it's not super loud to record it easily.

I have noticed creaking for a while on our 2010 Prius II. Shock tower boots are torn and could be the source. I notice it when entering our driveway when the radio is off but it is quiet and cannot be heard over the radio. This creaking has been there for at least a year, probably closer to 2 or 3.

It could be bushings or sway bar links. If you are not noticing any drivability differences, probably not a sway bar link, but easy to inspect.

There is more underdash rattles that I have been noticing recently :(.

145 k miles (soon to be 146 k). Shocks do not feel worn out and tire wear seems uniform and not faster than the tire warranty (80 k mile Bridgestone Turanza serenity). 25 k miles on this set of tires and still around 9/32 left:).

Update: after driving more while straining my ears i determined the noise actually coming from the driver's seat.

This reminds me a squeaky bed spring box (disconcerning in some activities) I silenced with grease on springs/wires.

I’m wondering if this is possible in a car seat?

I do not know about front suspension and at low speeds, but I think I've heard low grumbling noises (and the occasional high-pitched scream!) from my passengers when executing high-g turns, and swerves to avoid distracted pedestrians and other drivers! ;)
(…I just noticed that this one is 3 years old!:eek: o_O)
