    I think one thing we can all agree on, whether you're liberal, conservative, libertarian, or whatever, is that this year HAS to be better than last.

    Oh really, what makes you think so? A year from now there will be more people by the millions, there will be more pollution, the earth will be warmer, etc. etc. I can't think of very many things that will be better and I'm an optimist.

    Never say things are at their worst. They can always get worse than they are. One of the characters in King Lear speaks words to that effect, though I doubt that Shakespeare invented the sentiment.

    However, here's hoping that things improve this year! I'm not hopeful at all, but today is the day for wishing.

    Oh, I agree - don't forget that classic scene in "Young Frankenstein", with Dr. Frankenstein ("That's FrankenSTEEN") and Igor ("That's EYEgor") digging in the cemetery:

    Igor: "It could be worse."

    Dr. Frankenstein: "HOW?!?"

    Igor: "It could be raining"

    (SFX: Thunder, sudden rainstorm)

    But If 2007 just has less constant media obsession with celebrity newborns, I will consider it to be a better year.
