So I've read everything I can on this forum about the headlights and their ability or inability to auto turn off. What am I doing wrong??

I then step OUT of my brand new (2012) prius with the headlights fully turned on and lock the vehicle.

Also as I step out I hear no warning that my vehicle's light are turned on

Then I stand there waiting for 5 minutes......NOTHING...they stay on.

How in the world did I make it to year 2012 with a high tech toyota hybrid only to find that I have to now worry about being stranded somewhere because I left my lights on???

Can anyone please help me? Thanks

    Ok I'm good.

    Experiment 1
Walk up to car, open door, reach in turn lights on, shut door, lock it, stand there like a jack nice person for five minutes. Lights will stay on permanently.

    Experiment 2
Walk up to car, get in car, TURN ON CAR, turn lights on, turn car off, get out of car, lock car, LIGHTS WILL TURN OFF AFTER 30 SEC. Look and feel like superman

    Makes sense :)

You got it. The lights have to be on when you power off the car or the auto off won't work.

Also be careful if you exit by other than the driver's door.

Mine was working fine for a while then one day I came back to my car 2 hours later and my car lights were still on.
I guess I might of powered the car off and turned the lights off manually by habit then turned them back on.

This is especially a problem if you happen to drive one of these.
