What do I turn on that also heats the side mirrors? Up until then, I thought they were heated.

Foggy and lots of dew yesterday, so I was running front and rear defrosters all of the ~20 minute drive to work but the side mirrors never defogged.

Any test to see if they are shorted out or something?...

Hmmm, I thought it was the front defroster that turned them on.

Mine work with the front defroster just like the manual says. I am sure the dealer can check to see if yours are working.

They're standard on Canadian market Prius, as far as I can tell. They turn on with the REAR defrost button. It's possible they are not offered in the U.S., or only as part of an option package like the rear wiper is.

At -40, driving into the heated underground parking will cause the side mirrors to instantly fog up. I hit the rear defrost button when I approach the garage door, drive in and back into my stall. The mirrors never fog if I remember to hit the rear defrost before driving in.

They become active when you turn on the REAR defroster. They work quite well.

I'll keep an eye on it for a while before I decide it's really broken or something. Thanks...

I guess that make sense...you're trying to see behind you'd want the mirror and rear window defrosted....I've never used my rear defrost or needed my rear view mirrors defrosted and just, for whatever reason, assumed it would be the front defrost I'd need to use.

We don't get mirror heaters in the UK, although they're mentioned in the manual (with a "if fitted" clause). Not sure about the rest of Europe.

Yup, definately the rear defroster. It clears mine in about 10 seconds when I tap the rear def. switch.
