Above YouTube link 302nd video part one of eight several parts series of installation

This is part one my 2012 Prius C of the several parts series as I install this rack and modify it to hold several hundred pounds . This is the exact same procedure with the exact same rack but even bigger that I used on my 2009 Toyota Yaris that held up to 1200 pounds on the roof rack in use as a work vehicle for 300,000 miles. The rack that will be installed on this Prius was intended for a large van with a extender section in the middle to make it extra long. The high load bearing sections will be the one bar located directly over the center door pillar this is the strongest place on the vehicle acting as a roll cage to be able to take the entire weight of the vehicle in case of a rollover.

Whoa! 165lbs is what my UK Prius C/Yaris Hybrid Toyota OEM roof rack is rated for. With that said the problem inst 1200 LBS static wight it is the dynamic wight you need to really be worried about. This is why 165lbs is the very safe when you factor that. Sure you can go more but risk goes up ever so slightly with each pound. I tow 1200lbs with ease but 1200lbs on the roof? You have guts! lol

I bet it still handles better than any tradie van with the same tooling load-out.
