    hello everyone,

so my wife and I are dead set on a gen 2 Prius. I tried to look on here but couldn't find it, so i'll ask. is there a place i can go to see the difference in model year to year. i'm sure from 04 to 09 lots of little things changed. Is there a certain year to look out for? any and all help would be great.

I would look for a 2006 or newer. Some of the 2004s and 2005s had a problem with the MFD - the big computer screen. Also, the earlier Gen II Prius had very touchy traction control. It was improved for 2006, and again with the Gen III.

2006 also has the backup camera option. Backup camera + Smartkey = bliss

We have two 2007 Prius TOURING models. If you can find one of them, go for it! The key differences are european-like suspension and 16" wheels (195/55R/16). As of today, both cars have 72K plus mileage and average 44mpg. The only maintenance has been routine oil change/tire rotation. Bridgestone tires have lasted for 40K. Our second set, changed at 40464 miles on one, is still good...Bridgestone Ecopia EP100BL, 195/55R/16...at 72500 miles. These are the best cars we have owned and in a few years will buy two new ones. Go for it! BTW, TOURING model makes a difference!

They each have their idiosyncracies. From a reliability standpoint, some of the 2004-2005s had certain issues while the 2006-2009 had others. The condition and maintenance histories are probably the best indicator.
