    Hello,
I am new to the forum. I hope I can gain some insight and get some advice for my Prius. About a week ago, I purchased the 2013 Prius Persona Series. Today, due to my carelessness, i drove into a curb and I scraped my tire and scratched my rim.
My question is will the damages repairable? I have provide the picture of the damages. Any advices and recommendations is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance. image.jpg

:eek:OUCH. Yes, it can be fixed. Check with your local dealer or any high end car dealer. They have information on individuals that do wheel repair, paintless dent repair, paint touch up etc. Every dealer uses them. Figure $100 or less for repair. When done right, you'll never know. Is the tire sidewall cut?

It's horrible when that happens I know.
As Don says the wheel is fixable but to be honest I'd replace that tyre, but take advice off your local tyre fitting station.

Welcome to priuschat by the way

I did the same thing to a rim. I used the 2010's silver paint to cover up the rim's damage so it isn't as noticeable. The shop is going to tell you to replace the tire.

Yes wheel can be repaired. Tire no, it needs to be removed and replaced now. The tire side wall is not repairable and based on the picture is not safe. Don't beat yourself up, most people have done similar.

The rim looks just fine - cosmetic damage only.

As for the tire, the picture does not confirm that the slice goes all the way through the tire, but that is my guess - if so the tire is a total loss as the sidewall can not be repaired. Unless the damage to the tire is just superficial you really just need to replace the tire or you would be risking a blowout - at best an inconvenience, at worst a catastrophe.

I have been very paranoid about curbing my low profile 17" Five wheels (I think your Persona has the same wheels).

I have found the best way to avoid a damage when I have to park on the street by the curb, is to over shoot the spot with much room on the side, then back into the right, to approach the curb, so I get a view of the curb in the passenger side mirror on approach. This helps me to judge the position better, then just pulling to the right and stop.

    So far it is working.

Thank you so much all your responses and recommendations. I used to drive a 2009 TL for 3 years so I am really familiar with how the car handle turns and etc. I am getting to know my new Prius. So far I really like the mpg for my Prius and that I don't have to go to the pump every week and fill up the tank for 70.00.

I think u need to replace the tire, that cost should not be more than 100.00. Now if u think your life is worth less than a 100.00 just keep driving it.

I took the car to my local America's Tires Store and they inspected the tire and since the tire have a thick blackwall to protect the rim, it only appearance damage so it does not need to be replace. The rim is repairable so I have them send the rim out for repair. They gave me a estimate cost for rim for about 80-100.

I am glad it all worked out for you. Was that a 15 or 17 inch wheel?

@foodiegirl179 Not being present to examine the tire, I have to take your word from the tire shop but, I do know tires. Photos can be very deceiving, but even using a large monitor and enhancements that tire is bad. You should at minimum get another shop to look at it. Please.

Hey, and how about that 'Arts and Crafts' link that joerockt provided ! ? !
    You can do it !!

Can you take a pic of the flap of rubber with a pencil opening it up as much as possible?
Do you see any of the cords ( threads ) in there?

I'd reckon the tire shop was right, he had passed up a chance to upsell a tire! Must have been an honest fella.

The tire looks to have the type 2, raised rim protector. My 17" Toyos have the same implementation.
