    fellow prius owners!

I just received my 06 OEM EV button from Sigma automotive. and of corse, these parts don't come with
    directions.

    [attachmentid=2975][attachmentid=2976][attachmentid=2977]

The directions that i've found on priuschat are only for the 04-05.

The button and wiring harness plug are different for the 06.

From reading the post for the 04-05 installs, i know what wires i need to tap into, i just don't know what wire connects to which pin of the button/harness?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for your diagram (theforce).

quick question, is this a picture of the EV Button itself? or the harness/plug that slids into the button?

    Thanks again

    In Need of Help Please

The wiring harness for the 04-05 are different from the 06.

    check it out: http://priuschat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1278

The euro diagram differs with the 04-05 pin info.

    04-05:

    pin 1 IL
    pin 2 IL -
    pin 3 EV +
    pin 4 EV -

    2006:

    Pin 1 - Switch ground
    Pin 2 - Light gound
Pin 3 - Light voltage - Rheostat controled
Pin 4 - Switch positive. Connect to pin 27 on the ECU

Does anyone know exactly what wires are what on a 06???

    Thanks in advance.

    sorry.

I'm just not sure what wires i need to tap into.

I have the diagram for my 06 harness. Now i just need to find out what color wires i need to tap into on the dimmer harness.

    Thanks

Well, you could run some tests on the dash dimmer switch right next to it. That switch on the 06 has white/black, red, blue, sky blue, and grey wires on it.

If you look at my 04-05 EV VFAQ, you'll see that the 04 dimmer has white/black, red, sky blue, and grey wires on it. So it's probably a safe bet that those are the wires you need to look at on the 06 dimmer.

04 dimmer according to the EWD:
    T: grey - fed to EV - ILL+
ILL-: red - fed to EV - ILL-
    E: W/B - fed to EV - ground feed

06 dimmer according to the EWD:
    T: grey - fed to EV - ILL+
RV: red - fed to EV - ILL-
    E: W/B - fed to EV - ground feed
(the 06 "extra" wire, the blue, looks like it heads off to IGN somewhere, I only have a single page to look at)

    So....

    Pin 1 - Switch ground - W/B
    Pin 2 - Light ground - red
Pin 3 - Light voltage - Rheostat controled - grey
Pin 4 - Switch positive. Connect to pin 27 on the ECU

Note - I doubt it will matter if the red and grey are reversed, the button still uses an incandescent bulb.

BTW, report back on the wire colors once verified, I may get around to putting a button in my 06.

Thanks for all the info here, guys. I have mine on order as well, and once here, I'll document the process and confirm the wires. Anybody hazzard a guess as to why switch ground and light ground would need to be different?

Still incandescent?! Amazing. I wonder if there's any chance I can get in there to replace it with an LED. Stand by.

Well, I'm assuming it is incandescent as other switches are here and there in the Prius (Power button), but don't have an 06 button to check yet. If it is incan, definitely let us know how much brighter you manage to get it with an LED.

Good thread! I can't wait until my EV mode switch comes in (just ordered it this week). I'm looking forward to using the batteries to leave my neighborhood in the mornings.

The Euro tech doc shows the switch has an incandesent bulb and not a LED. You never know it could be wrong.

Toyota calls it the Pattern Select Switch.

finally has some time to try and install the OEM EV switch and my final outcome was only half installed.

I finally figured out that the harness diagram "theforce" posted is the tail view, i originaly thought it was the front.

But, anyhow, connected pin 4 to pin 27 and pin 1 to a screw in the dash for ground. Test drove and the EV worked. B) The engine kicks on at about 31mph.

Trying to get the EV switch to illuminate "properly" was my problem.

I connected pin 2 to white w/blk strip wire (light ground) on harness and pin 3 to red (light voltage - rheostat controlled)on harness. The switch illuminated but, the problem is, when i adjust the brightness to BRIGHT, the illumination on the switch goes dark, and when i adjust to LOW it illuminates bright. So i thought I'd try reversing pin 2 and 3, the light didn't come on. Tried a few other combinations with no sucess and called it a day.

So, final outcome "half as* installed". EV works but, doesn't illuminate.

Anyone out there have a sucessful OEM EV install in there 06?

Can you verify the colors you used, because they're not what I posted earlier:

    Pin 1 - Switch ground - W/B
    Pin 2 - Light ground - red
Pin 3 - Light voltage - Rheostat controled - grey
Pin 4 - Switch positive. Connect to pin 27 on the ECU

Note - I doubt it will matter if the red and grey are reversed, the button still uses an incandescent bulb.

I just got my EV button yesterday and I took it apart. :D It looks like the 06 EV button has an LED and not a incandescent bulb. The LED is a micro surface mount.

The OEM EV mode switch arrived. I was (still am, maybe, kinda...) confused about which wires for the light on the EV switch tie into the dimmer control. I did the following and it worked:

    2006 EV button pin out

Pin 1 - switch ground - solder wire to ring terminal and used bolt behind dash for ground.
Pin 2 - Light ground - tapped into grey wire on dimmer
Pin 3 - Light voltage - rheostat controlled - tapped into red wire on dimmer
Pin 4 - switch positive - ran wire and connected to pin 27 on the ECU

I am impressed on how quickley this car will accelerate without the ICE. I wish the software in the ECU would allow you to select different acceleration modes from the MFD.
