My 2002 Prius is in really nice shape and running well, until a warning light came on and it started bucking like a horse and it stopped running. The culprit is the big box on top of the engine. The dealer wants $3000 for the unit. Is there an alternative other than junking the car.

I would start looking for a used unit from a salvaged car. I believe that would be the inverter but I'm not sure about the 02.
