This.... is a 2006 Toyota Prius.

Less than 40,000 miles and it's currently up for bidding.

06 has clear light bulb covers in the back - as you can 'clearly' see on the video header - sorry I couldn't resist.
04 had the Smoky smoke bulb covers in back.

Imagining that the roughly 20-yr-old traction pack is pretty weak after all these years. Yet that gen still seems to be plugging along - across the landscape here & there.

I remember playing Gran Turismo 2 on my younger brother's PlayStation and found out about and even "raced" the Gen 1 Prius. It was a pretty neat car, flaunted in the game for its electric motor's instant torque, even though it was one of the slower cars. At the time, I had an appreciation for a lot of cars, and that game kind of made me appreciate them even more as it made me want to learn more about each car and what made them different and what made them tick.

I remember reading about the Gen 2 Prius in a magazine (I can't remember which, maybe Car and Driver). I got very excited, but I wasn't able to afford a new car (and still can't). I distinctly remember the review referring to it as looking like a baby slipper.

Many years later and now I finally drive a hybrid Toyota (2013 Avalon). TBH it's perhaps the best car over-all that I've owned: great fuel mileage, more room than ever but still a sedan, doesn't hardly ever have mechanical problems. There are some things I dislike about it, but then again, I guess I'm losing my appreciation for cars these days as they feel more like appliances on wheels. Maybe I need to start playing Gran Turismo again. Either that, or forget my soured dreams of owning cars I like and just come to the realization that a car is just a tool to get a person from Point A to Point B.

Our Gen II was only about ¾ of a year old when we picked it up in 04. It was in real short supply due to spiked gas prices & we happened to get lucky with a used one. The embarrassing thing, looking back, waving when seeing another, or at least - giving a nod when we'd see another one. LOL. Same thing with early adopters of the model s. Good times. Man - only in my early 40s. It seems like it was just yesterday

Do wish I'd be able to hold onto the 2005 for longer.

I may be hella poor but I bought a 2006 with only 136K miles on it 4 years ago as a spare Prius that I never drive and it has not only allowed countless friends to not have to wait for me to order parts to get 'em back on the road, but it's also a backup plan if my near 300K mile Prius has problems. Additionally, the value of it as a collector's car continues to brim with potential.
