The billionth time i've tried to post this

    Ok,

Man i've forgoton most of it now.

Own a 2002 Black Prius with leather. I think that makes it a Gen II? Anyway, it's been imported from Japan, and is not registerable in this country (As they were sold new here... Australian import laws and other tomfoolery make it impossible)

    Perfect. ;)

For the last few years we've been attending several car shows and burnout competitions in our now aging '96 Hyundai Excel.

I'd show you pictures but I can't until I have 5 posts apparently.

It's powered by Ford Cleveland 351ci V8, twin Garrett turbochargers, C4 Auto and Ford 9" (Mustang 4 link) rear end... Unfortunantly the thing requires an overhaul of the rearend and the chassis is experiencing fatigue, so the decision has been made to make a whole new car. The setup out of the Excel will be pulled out, rebuilt and shoved into the Prius... in time.

Poor things sitting out the back of the workshop waiting to be chopped up.

    Haven't named her yet!

I'm mainly here for technical insight (interior electrics etc all on the Excel are 100% functional, intergration with the Prius will be a bit harder, that's where you guys step in.

    Catchyas.

The less the better. I don't think many people care about economy down here, petrol is cheap and hybrid cars are... well, not exactly something you'd want to be seen in rolling around in on a Friday night down on the strip.

They aren't seen as very cool down here, which makes the Prius an even better base for our next comp car! Pioneers of the first cool Prius! :)

    Also, I stand corrected. It's a 2004, not a 2002.

So you're using an '04 as a mule to jam a hemi and a driveline
into? Sounds like a riot, but you'll never be able to convince
anyone that it's an MPG monster...

Sounds like fun. Since you're going turbo, why not use E85 with some huge injectors?

    Keep us updated.

EDIT: Would it be passe to name her "Sheila"?

EDIT 2: In your case, unintended acceleration might be AWESOME. :D:p

In the states this is true, but over here the latest Clevo you can get your hands on ('84 in XE Falcons) is a true 5.8, 4v heads all the goodies, whereas our Windsors are weak 302's with weak EFi restrictions and crap.

Running a Windsor means I need the emissions gear, running a Clevo means I can run what I want, and also means I get extra cubes...

could always run a stroker kit and stroke an EFi 302W out to 347, but the Clevo block is physically bigger/thicker etc so much stronger under boost ;)

Plus our Windsors were made with some sort of lame mexican metal or something, making them weak.

The Windsor worked great in my case and with a poor tune and only 7psi (S-trim Vortech) it went 6.8sec in the 1/8th. Unfortunately I sold it before finishing it and getting real 1/4mile times out of it. The Mexican block 302s were no slouches either, especially when stroked to 347s. :) *edit* actually the Mexican blocks were strong.

In all I prefer to turbo the LSx blocks in the GM cars and trucks. :D

The attached pic was after the twin turbo install. Never ran it though.

Down under things are likely much different so I cannot argue with ya. lol I assume you'll be doing big numbers though with so much work into a retrofit? :)

You guys got lame Mexican windsors with thicker walls etc didn't you to make up for the lameness?

Our lame-nice person Windsors were still thin walled but still with the lame metal too :(

Most people prefer the inline 6 over Windsors for this reason.

Also, that's 5 posts, Excel pics incoming.
