    How aggressive is the regenerative breaking system? I guess I am asking... when do the calipers engage opposed to the car simply offering resistance from the electric motors?

    I'd assume during hard stops the calipers are stopping the car... but lets say I want to slow from 55mph to 45mph is that the electric regen?

    Most routine braking is regenerative (hence, reports of incredibly long pad and shoe life). The friction brakes engage only with a hard, near-panic stop and at speeds of <7 MPH.

    Answer: It depends on how fast you need to stop.

    55 -> 45 in 10 seconds is 100% electric
    55 -> 45 in 5 seconds is 100% electric
    55 -> 45 in 2 seconds is probably 30% electric and 70% friction.

    Apparently the regenerative brakes are so aggressive that you have to crash on the brakes to prevent rust build up on your front discs.

    I've had them friction brake in a quick stop and you can feel the difference.
