How do you make Genre data show in the MP3 detail screen?

    I have used several programs to rip my CD's to MP3 files, and tried different versions of ID3 tags. Using a hex editor the tags appear to be valid ID3v2.3 and the Genre data does appear after the identifier TCON. According to the 2008 Owners manual, the CD player supports ID3 versions 2.2, 2.3, 1.0, and 1.1, but when I burn the files to disc and look at the Detail screen I can see the Album Title, Track Title and Artist fine, but never any information in the Genre field.

    Has anyone ever been able to get data to appear in the Genre field? If so what ripping software did you use?
