I'm just sorry enough for not mentioning km's to give a link to a conversion calculator.

We've taken 3 adults and 2 kids in car seats 500 miles away. My wife sat in the back between the car seats. She's incredible. And insane (not really, that wouldn't work, as David Brent would mention). But our record is 818 miles to SFO with just the 4 of us. The kids were incredible and survived a 11 hour leg pretty well, but I think we're going to have to fly when we go to Disneyland.

we regularly make a 1200 mile-ish trip home. closer to 1500 if we visit the college town. well, does that count? from "home" down south to home up north? :p two adults in the front seat, birdcage strapped in the back seat.

I've made the Sacramento to Seattle trip in the Prius.

I've also made the Sacramento to Ontario, Or. trip quite a bit just not in the Prius. I used to live in Ontario. It feels like such a ghost town now. lol

I have been from Michigan to NYC, which is about 650miles. End of the summer, I am planning on going a big road trip, possibly to CA and back. I will definitely post a thread about that when time comes.

Went on one 150 mile road trip (hey, stop laughing, California people! In New England that's considered a pretty long drive!). In a couple of months, however, I'm going on a 500+ mile road trip....

We've made a couple of trips from San Diego to Carpinteria (200 miles each way) for their Avocado Festival. We have a cat that needs insulin twice a day so we aren't as able to go further as we would like to. I'm hoping to do a trip to Las Vegas some time.

150 miles around trip is the most so far. I put about 1000 miles on a month. I guess I need to get out more. :D

Two summers ago I drove from Vancouver, BC to Ottawa, Ontario and back. The four of us camped most of the way, stayed with friends some days, and slept in the occasional motel room. We saw a great deal of incredible scenery, and I became addicted to coffee again. I don't recall the total distance - 15,000km sounds about right - so the '2000 miles' on the poll could be times a few for me. :)

edit: I've been a thousand miles from home on my bicycle, too. Does that count?

I have only had mine for 2 months, but I am still ashamed that the answer for me is 30 miles.

We are going from Porland OR to Elko, NV next week.

Route A is 642 miles, Mapquest says 11 hrs, 24 minutes via back roads:
    Protland-Elko via Bend, Banks, Winnemucca:
    18: SE BURNSIDE ST becomes US-26 E.
19: Stay STRAIGHT to go onto US-97 S.
    20: Merge onto US-20 E / US-97 BR S via EXIT 135A toward BUSINESS DIST. / BURNS.
21: Turn LEFT onto NE GREENWOOD AVE / US-20. Continue to follow US-20.
22: Stay STRAIGHT to go onto E MONROE ST / OR-78 / STEENS HWY. Continue to follow OR-78.
23: Keep RIGHT at the fork to continue on OR-78.
24: Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto US-95 / ION HWY. Continue to follow US-95 (Crossing into NEVADA).
    25: Turn LEFT onto W WINNEMUCCA BLVD / I-80 BL / NV-289.
26: Keep LEFT at the fork to go on I-80 BL / E 2ND ST.
    27: Merge onto I-80 E.

Route B is 709, Mapquest says 11 hrs, 37 minutes by more interstates
Portland-Elko via Pendleton, Boise, Twin Falls,

    1. Merge onto I-84 E via the ramp on the LEFT toward THE DALLES (Crossing into IDAHO).
    2. Merge onto US-93 S via EXIT 173 toward TWIN FALLS / WELLS- NEV..
    3. Continue to follow US-93 (Crossing into NEVADA).
    4. Merge onto I-80 W.

Does any one know these routes well enough to render an opinion? I am leaning toward A right now, and maybe other route on return.

I bet we would see a bunch more on the back roads route, and probably have no chance in hell of cutting off 13 minutes from our travel time.

I want to take the Prius, but I need to check and be sure my wife and two kids will be comfortable in the back seat for short trips around Elko becuase her mother would join us in Elko to go out to eat and other short trips.

When my Prius was very new, back in the spring of 2004, I drove from Fargo, where I lived, to Iowa City, IA, and back. That's the farthest "from home" I've gone in it. 544 miles each way.

But when I moved to Spokane, I drove the Prius 1,142 miles, from my old home to my new one.

Both of the above figures are according to MapQuest.

Before I answer the poll, did you mean how far away from home (one way) or the furthest trip (round trip)?

Via Hwy 1 & 101, leaving our home in South orange county, California, to our home in the Flathead Valley, MT. Normally up I.15 it's a 1,350 mile drive. Best time to date was 19 hours staight through. Going Highway One? add 700 extra miles!! Won't do that again.

So far I've only done L.A. and back a few times and Palm Springs.

I was considering driving to Sacramento but it would have taken too long within my time frame. Should have. The flight back was canceled and it took me longer to arrange to get out and then I still had to rent a car and drive down from Ontario (L.A.) Didn't get home until after 1 am.

I'm interesting in trying the Prius on a longer trip. The only trip I'd probably make is to Las Vegas. My parents drive there at least once or twice a year in their Caddy. I'd like to see how the Prius does on the long hill going. I suspect if gas gets really high (and airfare goes up as well) they might consider going in the Prius instead of their Caddy. I'd be invited to come along of course.

They've been toying with a cross country run to Connecticut to pick up the rest of my Aunt's estate, then down to Florida to visit my brother, then back home. I told them I'd be interested in going along if I could take my Prius. They want to take their truck because of all of the junk, I mean....estate. I think we could take both. The Prius could hold anything delicate or any overflow. And I expect my mother would rather ride in the Prius than the truck. But she doesn't want my Dad to drive alone. (78 and a still has a lead foot. And a heart condition.)

500 miles or so to a wedding in St. Louis. Pulled into the church parking lot and parked between two silver Prius. What a nice welcome!
