so is it 115 or 120 big difference?
gps is only way to find out accurate speed.
15'' vs 17" will show different speeds on the car.

That is higher than the ECU speed limiter of prior years.

it was 115 for a while then went to 120 when i was going downhill.. i did not have a GPS so no way to know exact speed but the car was smooth at that speed and no exccesive vibrations like my suv.

Yokoham sells a W 168 mph rated tire, I'm sure there are other tires above 149 mph rated, I just robbed a quick table from tirerack.

I have H rated 130 mph tires on my 2005 Prius but I've never taken it to any speed that would make me worry about any speed rating other than Temporary Spare Tires or Winter Tires. I just bought these tires for traction not for speed.

I'm not sure if I've even broken 80 MPH on it.

Fastest I've done in any car was a Neon that I took over 110 in Indiana where it was safer to consider such speeds. Even then I was at the limit of the car/tires in those conditions. Another 5 or 10 mph and I would have been waiting for the ambulance to haul me away.

Try doing that in a non controlled situation where you have traffic to consider like the highways on the east coast and you'd have to be on something that modifies your brain or have a death wish.

I suppose there is someone out there in Montana or that goes to track days to see how fast their prius goes but that isn't me.

I hope your job is in the middle of the desert or on the great plains.

I've only approached 90MPH while going downhill on the I-5. No place around here to try my top speed and I can't afford a ticket for going 120 in a 65 zone:)

I have just under 2,000 miles on my car and haven't had the desire to go over 80. I noticed the speedo at 76 this morning while passing some slow traffic on I-96. I usually set the cruise control at 70-72 and speed up to 75 to pass.

To speak in dangerous generalities, I'd say most Prius owners are usually more concerned with MPG than MPH...

I'd never purposely push a stock commuter automobile above 80 mph. Better late for work than buying a new automobile prematurely OR worse, getting in a automobile wreck.

Most likely somewhere in the mid 80's, and when you're going that speed, mileage is like only around 40 mpg or lower.

i guess someone has to balance out the hypermilers ( i think thats what the word is).

even at high speeds it still uses very little gas and is smooth. i guess i wont be breaking any records for fule economy. :D

Remember to break in your car before you go on any high speed excursions :p

Fastest my Prius has been taken is approximately 80 mph while coasting down the Sunol grade.

Fastest I've taken it under throttle....70 mph?..and that is usually if I'm getting it up to speed to take up a hill (like the Sunol or Dublin grades) and bleed off speed as I get to the top.

The maximum speed that I could reach on a level road was 180 km/h. The Prius was still accelerating when the speed limit cut in. If I am not mistaken the GPS confirmed that the speed displayed was about 7% optimistic with a true speed of 168 km/h. See my previous post at http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...66-best-mpg-date-post1289495.html#post1289495
As Google Maps Streetview shows it is big sky country and I was not the only person driving a Prius on that stretch of road.

Fastest in the Prius was 102 mph while I was testing the ability of neutral to stop a full throttle condition (unintended acceleration).

Fastest every 168mph in the Trans Am with 5 other T/A s and Camaros at the same time.
