I was looking at a 2004 with 41k miles (for 21k) and I was wondering how long you guys think the Prius will go for, how many miles, etc.

Also, do you think that is a decent deal? It is package 9.

$21k is too much for that car. With the Tax credit available for a new Prius you're only talking a couple thousand more for a loaded car, brand new, with full warranty.

That said, I think 200-250k miles is a reasonable first battery/first ICE life expectancy on average.

There isn't enough data out there to warrent a set number of miles as the "average" or "minimum" to expect, however there was the taxi driver who took his 200k+ miles without any serious problems. a vast majority of people simply have gotten theirs up to high milage points where you would expect to start having problems.

The car will last a long time but I agree with Evan that 21K is too much. I have an '04 with 34,000 on it. If you want to buy it for 21K I'll go out and buy an '06!
