I understand that dealers don't have this part
    in their warehouse.

It's been over a week now. I haven't heard anything
from the dealer. After I drop it off, the next day, I
heard was that they did a diagnose and that the transaxel
melfunction. That was the last time I heard from them.

Since then, I've been calling them almost every other
day for status. I was told they will call me back, but I got
zero return call from the dealer.

I hate of not knowing what's happening to my car!

call and ask to speak to the service manager. Anybody lower on the pole than him won't give a **** about your transaxle. I'd tell him to expect a call every couple of day's to get updated on your car. I'd guess there is probably only a couple of transaxles in NA, so depending where you are located it could take a week just to get it there as it'll go by truck. (weight) I don't have an exact time on re and re but I'd think on the order of a couple of days, maybe a bit more if your tech hasn't changed on before.

Thank Frank, I haven't try the service manager yet. I am going to
give them a few more days. The next call will be the service manager.

for future reference, find a tech that cares and stick with him. DH always gives his cell phone number to anyone who's car he has to keep for more than a couple days.

at this point, best to talk to the service manager and make it clear you want more information and pronto.

OK you have hooked me and now all you have to do is land me! Why might one wonder is this being done? I may not be every day that this has to be done and it might be nice to know why and what, who, when, where etc.

I will have a full summery off all the event in a seperate topic when
and if I get my car back.

Here what I have so far. On 06/02 I decided to call the service manager.
He's on vacation according to the voice mail. I hate voice mail. I didn't
leave a message. The voice mail greeting says if it is urgent, I can talk
    to person X.

I decided to call Toyota HQ. Toyota HQ is sending them a notice.
Also that I should expect a call back from a public relation person name Y.
If the dealer don't respond within 3 days, call Toyota QH and they will
    take some action.

do you know the name of the tech that has your car? should be on your work order. find out who he is, call up the dealer's main line, and ask for him. you shouldn't be in the dark about what's up with your car.

I'm gonna sound dumb on this one, but what does DH mean? Da Husband?

Always appreciate your "insider" info on service issues though!

Do I recall that the Prius warrantee provides for a loan car if they keep it more than a couple days?

Or is that part of the extended wty package?

I know nothing, except on 05/24 which is one day after
had the car towed. The service adviser called to notify me
that they did a diagnostic and that something wrong with
the transaxel. I asked for the diagnost code and was told
    he will call back later.

I didn't get a call from anyone at the dealer today.

According to the manual, if it is a warrenty work, they will pay up to 5 days
for car rental and a towing expense. Since this is a new car, it's still under
factory warrenty. Extended WTY won't kick in until factory WTY expired.

I really don't care much about car rental since I car pool with my roommate.
I just want to know what's going on and when I can have my car back!

It will be ready this Wednesday (06/07/06).

What will be ready, the car or a spun press release on "our
dealership doesn't suck, really, c'mon now"??
    .
I can't imagine why you're waiting to write up what must have been
a fairly significant event, though. Remember the guy who ran over
a signpost during the hurricane in Florida and fatally wounded the
bottom of his transaxle case? That sparked a brief discussion about
how to maybe design a skid plate? We had *that* story, with pictures,
    within half a day.

    Well, gee, gosh Mr Hobbit!

The point of this forums is for everyone to share good and bad things
about his/her experience. So everyone can learn from it. I am a first
time new car owner. I know nothing on how to deal with an incompetent
dealer. I learned quite a lot from everyone on this forum. Ok, am not
going start another lenghty soap regarding my experience.

To make the story short, I got my car back one week later than I was told.
It took almost 30 days to get my car back. I wouldn't have gotten my car
back had I not pay a visit to the service manager as suggested by someone
at this forum. When I got it back, it appears like it was put together
hurry by some grunt(some monkey/trainee, not the mechanic). My virgin Prius
has oil drips on the passenger and driver seat. Under the engine, a
handufll of axel grease unclean near the axel area. Electrical wires were
not secure to the harness. Some plastic bolts were broken and missing
which use to secure the splash guard on top and buttom of the engine.
I see scratches on driver door and scuff marks on the tail fin.
Also, the kid/grunt who brought the car from the service lot, asked
me how to set the car to park!!! He was sitting in the parking lot
waiting with a foot on the break while the Prius is still in drive mode.

At this point, my car is working fine, however, I am not very
confident with the work that they done.

I just got a Toyota Vehicle Service Survey today. I think I will
send them my lenghty soap with the survey.

    oh  that sucks!

i'd complain, and *loudly* at the service desk... in the presence of other customers if necessary. and btw, what dealer was this so that others can avoid them?

It's the Toyota of the Desert in Cathedral City.

    AKA Honda of the Desert.
    AKA Accura of the Desert.
    AKA Mazada of the Desert.

All locate on the same lot and I think maybe all own by the same
person or company. I will not going back to that place again.
