I just bought a used prius and want to replace the mfd since the screen is completely shot, and while it might be salvageable with just a replacement touch screen, I'd rather just replace the whole thing to be safe.

My question is how many cables actually go to an 05's mfd? Most videos online show more cables than were attached. I had 3 attached, and the videos show a fourth where my finger is.

    Thanks in advance.

Don't worry so much about cables. You just need to purchase a good MFD that exactly matches the part number on your original. Looks like a 47081, which is a very common Gen 2 model. Different models were used for cars with different options. Different models also have different pin outs on the connectors. Use the wrong mfd with your wiring and its likely smoke will exit the mfd.

47081 is pretty basic and common. You can get them on Ebay, or if you're close to Tampa and like the old fashioned way of buying stuff, try Tampa Hybrids. Last time I looked, we had several refurbished in that model.
