How many prime owners have invested in a L2 Charging station at home?

    Did you invest in an L2 station at home for your Prius Prime, or do you get by with just the standard L1 wall socket?

    Doing fine with L1 only. Nightly 5 hours charge schedule works for me. I am thinking to install L2 when we purchase our second car which is likely to be either another PHEV or BEV.

    I wired a 220 volt outlet on my daughter's carport this month. She does not need it for her Prime, but she is planning an AWD PHEV SUV in her future, and the ones currently available need at least 8 hours to charge at 110.

    I installed a Level 2 EVSE 2 years ago when I had a BEV. Using it now for my 2 PHEVs.

    Same here. Installed a L2 nearly 4 years ago for my previous Fiat 500e. The L2 isn’t *required* for the Prime, but is nice at times.

    Haven't found the need. It's rare that I'm pushing for a faster charge and there's no way in the world the hundreds of dollars I'd have to spend to get the power, the plug and the charger would ever pay for itself. I probably wouldn't do it unless I had a short-range EV, and I doubt I'll ever own one of those.

    When we only had the 31A, BMW i3-REx it made sense. It would charge during supper and ready to go a couple of hours later. Works for the Prime too.

    Installed a Juicebox 40 amp charger. Use it every day multiple times . Love how I can see how many kWh's I use!

    I use my L2 charger during the day and my regular charger at night . I try to leave my car dead for most of the night and then have it fully charged when I leave for work in the AM

    Though a L2 charger would be nice, it isn’t a necessity for my household even with a BEV and the PHEV we do fine 99% of the time. If I can ever talk the other half into a longer range BEV instead of his prime, I’d love a L2, but right now it doesn’t make sense for convenience vs cost.

    I have an L2 charger (40Amp). Usually fills in 1:50 give or take. After we had it installed though, we got a Chevy Bolt in the stable also. It takes full advantage of the capacity difference.

    For a Prime, yes. You'll want 40A if you get a car with a 32A charger like a Leaf.

    For PRIME, yes. If you ever going to need to charge BEV with bigger battery in future, you might want 40a or 50a breaker now.

    I agree with Lee & bwilson. An L2 power supply makes no monetary sense.

    If you're putting in a new one, put in wiring that will handle possible future needs. Put in wiring for as much capacity as your panel will deliver, at least 40 amps (which is needed for a 32 amp charge station, according to the 80% rule). Wiring and breaker rated at 50 amps is needed for a future 40 amp charge station.

    There was a chart of the Volt L2 initial take rate and it was quite small, obviously after a while some would stumble into L2 after breaking their L1 extension cord but even on BEVs the take rate is lower than you would expect.
    With $150 Duosida hybrid L1/L2 portable extension cords the math is getting a little better but it rarely pays financially unless you count convenience .

    The Bolt and Tesla’s have higher L2 adoption rates but even for those it wasn’t over 50%

    In many cases folks can’t gain access to L2 without extreme measures (like HOA issues) so I guess it makes sense.

    Since I can charge at home and work the L2 math is even more skewed

    Ah well, at least the leaf includes a dual voltage extension cord now which makes L2 less of a hurdle.

    To me, the only times L2 makes sense are:

    - Short range EV needing a lot of charging
    - Long range EV where you do a ton of driving (more than can be made up by L1 every night)
    - When you have to run power anyway, and it doesn't make much cost difference if it's 120 or 240
