I know it's a personal question- not looking to offend. If you are comfortable, please let me know what you paid for your C2- I'm trying to buy one in CA and have been told that 23k including 8.75% tax and fees is as low as people will go, get I've read that people are getting them for less. Can you guys give me an idea of what's appropriate?

doh! I just re-read that the price including tax and tags.

I come up with $22712 with CA tax
so if fees are in the $250 range with new tags, then that is pretty much msrp/sticker price.

That is what I paid. (but I have less tax in PA)

So 23k is about accurate? Never bought a new car before and trying not to get screwed.

Most of the C2's here are going for right at 20,660 MSRP with no options before taxes and dealership fees. I know mine has a $760 delivery fee which would make it about 21,440 so with 8.5%taxes it would be $23,316 ballpark.

Most of the time you can negotiate a price slightly lower than MSRP for a new vehicle but with the Prius C's being the fastest selling car in the US right now, chances of getting much off the MSRP is slim. However, if you live in Southern California- you could check with Dianne and see what PriusChat "specials" she has! :) I certainly wouldn't pay above MSRP though.

Unless you are really wanting to dig a deal up...and waste time (yes many will bicker over this remark)

Paying the msrp is not bad, as some dealers are going above.
If you can afford and are comfortable at that price, then it is a good price.

I've priced around a bit and 23K seems to be the best quote I've been given. There is something about me that has trouble paying MSRP, regardless of how popular something is or not. I'm considering waiting...

That's great! How did you argue the price down?

IF you really want to open the flood gates......

How much of a savings in gas would you be getting over your present car?

Say you wait 2 months at $20/wk of savings in gas = $160
    How about waiting 10 months? = $800

How much will you save by waiting?

I saved a whole lot of waiting time (my valuable time) by buying the freaking car.
I am not saving much in actual gas, as I dont put 1k miles a week of driving.
But I got what I wanted, when I wanted.

Do you want a Prius, or do you want to think the deal is only good if you are saving $100-500
    off of the price
(sorry little rant, I must go mow grass)

Believe me, all stuff I've thought about. Right now I own my car outright. My husband's car is close to being paid off but we still have a few months left to go. I'm concerned about having two large car payments each month. The savings in gas would be great, but I'd still be spending more out of pocket.

If you cannot afford it now, then waiting is not for saving money.

If there is only a few months left of payments on hubbys, then a few months
from now, there is a better chance of getting a few $$ off msrp if that would really help or matter.

Perhaps during waiting, if you have the time, you can email all the dealers in
the area that is in your buying area.
Then you will have a deal in writing (or at least email) that can find a good price.

I paid around $22.8K otd for my C2. Another dealer offered $200 off sticker but they lowballed me on my trade in.

Good plan. Good things come to those who wait. Demand is high right now, so you're competing with lots of other bidders. In time, supply will catch up with demand and you'll be able to get your price.

This actually sounds high- I got mine for 350 under MSRP, for 20535 WITH delivery included.

MSRP on the c2 starts in the high 19's without delivery. Don't forget that.

Just remember they are speaking with 8.5% CA tax + tags included in the price.
(first posts for me, I missed that)

22.6K for my c2 out the door in Culver City (with floor mats yay!) in March. I had to buy a car quick but in the limited pricing-around I did, I got the impression that the breaking point where there was no chance a dealer would negotiate, was around 22.2K. But the cars were just starting to arrive at that point so buying was probably easier.
