How to determine which used inverter will work in my 2007 Prius

    I found an affordable replacement inverter from a 2008 Prius locally I want to use on my 2007. I have to pull it out tomorrow but want to be sure it is compatible before I buy it.

    Do all 2005-2009 parts work on a Gen 2 Prius? Specifically, will a 2008 inverter work on a 2007 Prius?

    Please keep it on topic, yes I know inverters hardly ever fail, no I do not want to discuss why mine is probably ok. All I want to know is how to determine which one will work on my car.

    One last thing, same question but for a used transaxle, how do I determine which one I need for my 2007 Prius?

    Check compatibility at car-part.com. Part search interchange is shown automatically.

    Differentiation shows before April 2007, and from May 2007 date of vehicle manufacture. Check your ViN #

    Looked up by vin but still asks me to select what part of year it was made and I dont know, is there any way to find out? My vin number is JTDKB20U373285271 and from what I understand it only tells me what year it was manufactured thus the "7" eighth from the right. I will have the information shortly once my relatives are awake and can send me a picture of the sticker in the door jamb if it is still there.

    If the information in #2 is right and the split is up-through-April versus May-or-after, that seems to fall in the second bin.

    If that website is to be believed then 05-09 transmissions work on my car, still trying to figure out which inverter I can not find it on the pull down.

    Oh look at that... I remembered it wrong... Any vehicle made in May 2007 thru end of 2009 is compatible... I think I remembered date of manufacture of my own car, which is July. That's the beauty of memory though... You gotta work a little extra if you care about having your facts right!

    So, any vehicle made from May 2007 thru end of 2009 has to use an inverter from those years only?

    Transmission/transaxle any vehicle made from 2005 thru end of 2009 can use a transmission/transaxle from all of those years?

    Is this correct?

    I would have no hesitation at all to use an inverter from a 2008 in my 2007. I would likely have no hesitation to use any 2004-2009 inverter if I needed to replace a failed one, as long as I knew it was functioning properly in the car it was salvaged from. Same for the transaxle.

    Just like there are 6 different HV Battery ecu part numbers available between 2004-2009, any of them will work in any year Gen 2 HV battery.

    Thats what I first thought but there are a lot of people with the opinion I posted above, the parts house link earlier in this thread differentiate at the 4/07 and 5/07 as well they list ones for sale above and below that date split. I hope by the end of this thread we have a definitive answer what we can use.

    G9200-47100 is the part number for the inverter used from 8/2003 through 12/2004.
    G9200-47120 is the part number for the inverter used from 1/2005 through 4/2007
    G9200-47121 is the part number for the inverter used from 5/2007 through 3/2009

    Try to order a 47100 or 47120 from Toyota. Nope, not gonna happen (unless there's some NOS out there), because they've been replaced by the 47121. Actually, the 47100 got replaced by the 47120 in the first update, then the 47120 got updated to the 47121. So it really doesn't matter.
    If you use a salvaged 2008, then you're installing the latest revision model. A model that has a different screw or something, yet is still the current replacement for all the earlier models.

    Just like the 6 HV battery ecus from 20004-2009. The latest and greatest revision is the factory replacement for all earlier versions also, yet any of the earlier versions will also work if you happen to have one.

    As for this...
    I hope by the end of this thread we have a definitive answer what we can use.

    I think we're there.

    As a group we'd prefer you take the hit and try to install an inverter on the wrong side of the split year so we finally know if there's any actual compatibility issue and if there is what the symptoms are... Of course that might not work out for you too well, but we'd appreciate it. Lol!!!!

    I actually found this out with the ABS module, I had the latest and greatest in my 2007 but it was not working so I bought one that was older but in great shape and it worked like a charm. Forget what the serial number was but lets say the 2007 was a 51 the replacement I got was one rev lower or a 50 (fictitious number for conversation sake).

    Read my previous post I did on the ABS module lol honestly very glad to hear you guys chime in I am feeling a whole lot better. I take it this goes for every part from 2005 to 2009 including the transmission, is this correct?

    In my experience most claims of compatibility limitations within each generation of Prius are false. In this case it's Gen2 Prius 2004-2009 and in my experience everything I've tried that was in a 2004 works fine in a 2009. Of course it'd be a huge pain to find out there are exceptions, so I don't push my luck too much.
