Could we make the sun smaller? Then we might not need sunglasses.

Or paint it a different color. Perhaps a cool blue would work.

I say we launch a giant polaroid band into orbit, we stop global warming and unsafe driving in one step.

If we pump enough fine particulates and smog-forming emissions into the air, we can successfully dim the sun enough that sunglasses would not be necessary.

I think that has been tried already. I can't recall but I think there was a problem with that approach.

This is why I approved of Mr. Burn's idea to block the sun.

We are exploring solutions to the big sun problem. Sunglasses are one way to deal with it, but perhaps that solution is a little myopic.

Why does everything have to have a reason? *

    * (Note that I could illustrate the irony of the above statement with the apparently overused rolling-eye-smiley, but certain members here, whose viewpoints I usually respect and always at least tolerate, have expressed the desire for fewer emoticons and more verbiage, so I left it out.) **

**(I could also have added further meaning to this last comment with a smart-nice person-toungue-sticky-outie smiley, but that probably goes without saying. Or not, as the case may be.)

I approve of any forum where the 'Tree-hugging Vegan Witch' named for a bird is the sensible one reining in our imagination. :mod:

Would that counteract global warming? (not that global warming exists anyway:D)

If it does... you probably are gonna have a harder time reading the gauges to check if it's true...

But... since CARB proved the reducing emissions does improve air clarity and quality, thus increasing the radiation reaching the surface, global warming will continue to occur, as it has since the last ice age... well, it will continue to occur until this solar minimum gets into full swing along with the ash that will be spewing out of the Icelandic volcanoes over the next three years... cause, that's gonna cool the planet bigtime for a while.

I avoid sunglasses whenever possible. I'm of the opinion that using sunglasses just further impairs our ability to naturally adjust to the sunlight.

That said, when the glare is harsh on wet pavement, and I'm driving, I do use a pair. Just enough to cut the worst of the glare so I can drive safely.

"Tree-hugging" is a euphemism for caring about the environment. Veganism is recognition that refraining from eating animals is gentler on the environment and healthier for the person doing the eating. "Witch" is a more difficult term, since fundies generally use the term to mean a person who rejects all that is "good" and worships the lord of evil, and uses magic to harm people; while the people who apply the term to themselves generally mean by it someone who reveres nature, possibly including personification of natural objects like trees and streams. Taking the latter definition for witch, since the former does not refer to any actual person, How could anybody expect a tree-hugging vegan witch to be anything but sensible and intelligent?

Now, getting back to how to reduce the intensity of the sun, one way might be to drop our biggest nuke on Yellowstone, in the hopes of triggering the coming massive volcanic eruption, which will probably blacken the skies long enough to exterminate most of the species now living on Earth, and giving our poor beleagured planet a chance to start over.

Make sure to wear sunglasses if you look in the direction of the blast.
