hello, I just bought a 07 Prius from a salvage yard. It has been hit in the front, so it needs a radiator, condensor, fan, headlights and front body parts. It is also missing the FOB. What is the simplest and most economic way to get a key made for this. Is it OK to buy on ebay and take it to a dealer to reprogram it or is there a way to contact the previous owner to obtain the key from him.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

i think u have to buy the same model year fob, if it has a black button on the drivers door ,passenger door, and hatchback door, you need one with a silver emblem, and if it does not then you need a black emblem on the back. once you secure the fob, you just tow the car to the dealer to have it set.

watch out, some dealers like to claim you need to replace a computer at a cost of $1000 plus keys, you don't. search here for the "end of losing your keys myth" to get the associated TSB on this. they just need to retrieve a seed number for the car, type it into the "toyota web" retrieve a PIN number, and just reboot it

if your not sure about looking for black buttons on those doors, you can also just look under the steering wheel, there should be a button marked "KEY" then you need the silver emblem toyota logo

show up to the dealer with a copy of that TSB, just in case they try to con you

if they insist on wanting to replace the entire computer, refuse and tow it to another dealer.
