I took the foam insert out of the luggage area of the trunk on my 2017 Prius Two, and found a lot of extra space for luggage for a trip. I'll put a little mat down, but my main worry is damaging the electronics and wires. How would you suggest I protect them if I am just putting a mat down before putting luggage in? Would taping them up be enough?

I'd use something hard, like a piece of square roof gutter with one side snipped out. A soft piece of foam inside, maybe. Can't be too careful.

I was going to say the same the same thing. Since the cargo area bare metal surface is already exposed, might as well put in some self-adhesive sound deadening material like dynomat, and use it to secure and cover the wires as well. After seeing the top photo, I am now planning to do this to my own prius. The photo shows that it shouldn't be too difficult, and the large metal surface area shown in the photo indicates that a considerable amount of attenuation of rear vehicle road noise might be possible in this area. Thanx for posting.
