The man was bashed unconscious by up to six people after telling the owner of a silver Hummer how much he liked it.

He and his wife were outside a car park in Flinders Lane about 5am yesterday, waiting for a friend to retrieve his car.

He approached the Hummer, a big four-wheel-drive of US origin, and said to the occupants: "I love your car."

Police said between four and six people got out of the Hummer and attacked him...

    Good lord.

Makes you wonder what they would have done if he told them he hated it.

Actually turns out the car was a Dodge Nitro.

Police have arrested a 25-year-old man over the assault of a couple in Melbourne's CBD last weekend.

Police say the man and woman were admiring a silver-coloured vehicle, initially thought to be a Hummer, in a secure car park on Flinders Lane at about 5:00am last Sunday.

Police now say the car was a Dodge Nitro, similar in appearance to a Hummer vehicle.
