Thank you for accepting my request to join your chat group.
Got 82K miles on my 2010 Prius. Dealership recommends cleaning HV Battery Cooling fan.
It was making some unusual intermittent noise during a weekend trip.
How often does this fan need to be cleaned?
What happens if I don't clean it?
Dealership wants to charge $240 for the 2 hour cleaning job??!!
    Thanks!

    Thanks.
I don't carry pets at all and rarely use the back seat to carry anything other than groceries, books or boxes.
The noise was like a scrunching noise; as if the fan was rubbing against something. It was and remains to be intermittent.

it's a pretty easy diy, but if you think it's the fan and don't want to do it yourself, i would look for a mech willing to give it a shot. shouldn't be more than 75 bucks, tops. there are pics here and utube videos i think.

It is a possibility that the intake opening had suck in some sort of small piece of paper or plastic film?

are you sure the noise wasn't the fan speeding up? it has 6 speeds. was it hot out? were you going up any large hills at a high rate of speed?

If you are a DIY'er it is an easy job. If you are interested we can give you the details.

It is definitely not a 2 hour job for an experienced Toyota technician. 1 hour tops.

in that case, you probably want to open it up. put a flashlight to her and look through the grille.

Yes it was hot outside and i did have the A/C running full blast so that is also a possibility.
I am not currently a DIY but would love to learn

hard to find a gen III cleaning video, you'll have to do some searching. it might not be that different from gen II. someone mentioned you can 'pop off' the grille and reach into the fan, idk. if you try it, disconnect the 12v first and be careful of your fingers.
