    Hi Everyone,

I heard this on the radio on the way home yesterday... Looks like they are trying to (Or already did) increase the registration for owners of hybrid cars by $100 per year.

Both state and federal are trying to raise money, and most cars are getting more efficient nowadays and less gasoline are been purchased. They are planning to raise 10-20 cents per gallon federal tax and 5-10 cents per gallon state tax in the next few years.

Because hybrid cars are super efficient and hardly use any gasoline, they want us to pay extra $100 per car in California!!!

We need more information. Is this about the proposed ballot measure one group is trying to qualify in CA for November, which would raise the basic fee on ALL cars by 1% per year? One of the supporters was quoted saying EV and hybrid owners not paying a fair share toward road repairs through fuel taxes. Remember the story of Chicken Little?

Can't seem to find anything online but these others that I found... California already tax us a lot on gasoline... I was upset when I heard it on the radio yesterday... I just bought my Prius less than 2 month ago and been punished... :'(

The way I look at it, all levels of government are low on revenue. They're all going to extract more from whomever and however they can. One way or another, we're doomed to pay more.

Yep. They told us and the auto manufacturers that we needed to use less gas. We conserve, they reward us with higher taxes because there are fewer tax dollars coming in. Same thing with water here in CA, we've had drought conditions for several years, and we needed to conserve. We use less water, they reward us by raising the rates. Aaarrgh!

Since the California govt is the worst in the nation this would not surprise me. They have destroyed the states finances and are always plotting ways to separate the workers from their hard earned money.

Add to that, low sulfer gasoline is mandated by 2017. The conversion to ULSD diesel fuel raised fuel prices by 50 cents a gallon. Will low /no sulfer gasoline raise price as much as diesel ??

:)Virginia passed a $100 annual Hybrid fee last year, which was later reduced to $64, and then new Gov. McAuliffe signed a bill dumping the $64 fee. Sometimes common sense prevails.

When I drive down the rough roads in our area (losing mpg all the way) I would like to see them fixed. But someone else has to pay, not me! After saving $1000 on gas last year I just can't afford that $100 fee.

As far as I know, no state has a Hybrid Fee.
As Don said, Virginia tried a Hybrid Fee last year, and it got repealed, almost immediately the next legislative session.
Several states including VA do charge pure EV's an $100/yr. Believe you can add WA and NC to that list.

California already has a high % sales tax and a annual property tax (blue book value) that basically is an extra tax hit on Hybrids. California's "hybrid penalty" is not as bad as Virginia (really high property tax in some locations) but there is already a tax hit on hybrids in CA.

If anyone is aware of an extra fee on hybrids (eg; OR), pls advise.

I don't ever have an issue paying all of the taxes that have been levied on me. The issue is that my money doesn't all go towards the originally intended need. The governing bodies asking for my money are not the most efficient group.

:)Now that's a interesting subject. We pay a lot of different taxes, too many to list, and it amounts to what I consider a lot for two people. Every citizen should pay taxes that apply to them. Even if it's a small percentage of income. No free rides.

Voters not voting also needs to be added to the mix.

You don't actually want to inject Sulphur into the air. It comes back down as Sulphuric Acid, AKA Acid rain.

Yes! That really bothers me too. The politicians seem to be into making more government or making less government but never into making better government. They wait until a scandal (read VA) and then wonder how it happened.
