Hybrid Synery Box ? & whine when accelerating

Hello All,
I've searched for information on this and am not finding it, so I'm putting it out here - with our Prius Community.

I have a 2008 with almost 92000 miles. I noticed when it is cold, and try to speed up, it whines very loudly. As it warms up, this goes away and I can accelerate without issue. I've also noticed that the Hybrid box gets very hot. I'm in West Central FL, so we are quite warm 8 out of 12 months, with recent hot weather, high humidity and no clouds making it feel worse than it is.

I just had my 90K mile check up and all checked out better than they thought it would, from my local Toyota dealership's side.

Are these things normal and or should I have something checked out?
