We live just outside Detroit and the North American International Auto Show is only about 20 miles away. The local TV news stations cover this show like there is no other news. Every night we get 15-20 minutes of the Press Preview coverage with each night devoted to a segment of the cars.

Last night was the topic of hybrids and front and center was the Prius. In fact a Prius is shown in the Auto Show intro segment. Clearly, it has become the benchmark hybrid against which all others are compared. What is most interesting is how the local news shows try to work around the fact that it is Toyota. The Big 3 have so few hybrids to show that our local news often show the Prius but then fail to name it!

I am not complimenting or bashing anyone here, just reflecting on how far Detroit has to go just to catch up.

funny. I was watching the one hour special on Como4 and they ranked the Saturn VUE hybrid as their Gearheads #1 pick. 2nd was the Hihy and 3rd was the Silverado Hybrid. Oh what a surprise. Also, the whole show was centred around Ford, Chevy, Dodge and Chrysler. Even when Toyota said, "hey, we're gonna let you show the unveiling of the F3r Freedom Concept" they only showed the car going around once and then switched back to the domestics lol.
