Why does this website hyperlink to walmart? It is different if someone adds a hyperlink to their post.

I was reading a reply in mpg and engine block was autolinked to walmart.

    Strange.

I believe it is a part of the "affiliate" advertisement scheme the site uses to generate income. Yeah, it annoys me when seemingly irrelevant links are placed in the comment without the consent of the poster of the comment... but unless I or you are paying to use the platform, I guess @Danny has to do what keeps the wheels rolling.

ad blocker does not work on the automated link from the comment. AFAIK, there is no app that would prevent the auto hyperlink.

Ghostery on Firefox blocked it. The app is a tracker blocker in addition to ads.

Thanks for the info. I just installed it on my Firefox. Will see how well it works. If it blocks only unwanted links, then it will be a keeper. But more often than not, some of those "blocker" blocks legit links I need.

You manage which trackers to block in the detailed view, and you can easily pause it and refresh the page if you suspect something is there you want to see.

I just realized that Firefox on a PC and Chrome on a Chromebook behaves differently.

This is what my Chrome looks like on the OP's comment on this thread. On my Chrome, I have AdBlock extension enabled.

Then, here is what the same post looks like on my PC. This is without Ghostely extension installed, but with Adblock Plus extension installed. So, it seems my Adblock Plus extension on Firefox is blocking the inline hyperlink, but the AdBlock extension on Chrome is not. I am going to install the Ghostly on Chrome to see if it blocks the in-line hyperlink ads.

Just installed Ghostly on Chrome on my Chromebook. Yep, the in-line hyperlink ads are now gone. Will keep it on my Chrome for now, and see how it works. I uninstalled the extension from Firefox for now.

My ad blocker slept in this morning, and I experienced the full blast of dating sites, miracle cures, pop-ups.

    Yeah, pull the other leg:

you'd think paid memberships would be a priority, but maybe hard to do?

I think @Danny could generate more revenue by giving an option to pay to bypass new poster rules and simply allow new profiles to pay to post images and videos prior to posting enough time to be allowed to do so. Think of all the spammers that'd pay to post stuff that would get deleted for being spam, but would generate revenue for PriusChat anyways. :)

I don't get any of the ad stuff you folks are talking about -- I run Firefox with something my daughter added for me. It works great -- I would tell if I could....but I am clueless about what she did.

But the site runs virtually ad-free, no invasive links, etc. for me. Don't get me wrong. I don't mind supporting a site and a few ads are O.K., but some sites, well, they are impossible to navigate.

And, I would do the buy the beer thing, if it ever went live -- but hasn't it been up for a decade or so....but has never gone live.

And, seriously, trying to get a response from Danny? When has that ever happened since a few years after the site went live --- well --- we did hear a lot from him when he got that junket to Japan -- what -- seven years ago.

Tideland Prius is the only "official" I ever see post and I have to hand it to TLP....fantastic job.
