we're swapping cars in january. DH is going to have a very long commute and mine's staying pretty much the same. in fact, i think that will be the only thing that stays about the same come 2008. so he gets the prius and i get the es250.

    *sniff*

repeat to self: short term pain, long term gain.

No viable public transit for ya? I'd hate to be caught seen in a "gas guzzler". :p

Maybe DH could piece together something hybrid from all those extra parts he has laying around. hahaha

trust me i wasn't thrilled. the lexus is a real trip to drive, even that old, but it KEEPS RUNNING at stoplights... Wth!

it gets about 17 mpg in town. that's just over .5 gal per day for me. (ie, costwise it's the cheaper to drive, and it's safer for me to avoid walking through this neighborhood from the bus stop. that's why i don't bike either.) he would use about 4 gal per day in the prius.

conversely, if he were to keep the es250 at 23 mpg highway that's 7 gal per day for him and .22 gal for me. adds up quickly!

so short of buying another prius  that's the best we can do, my friend. i do believe we're one or two parts short of a hybrid upgrade :p

Haha well you've done the math and it does indeeed add up. You realize I was just giving you a had time. You're much too pretty to be walking the streets alone. Well, unless you wanted to break the law and try to recoupe some of the money DH spends on fuel. :p

Do you have to drill holes in the roof for that antenna or does it fit in the factory mount?

Well at least we know why she doesn't get 60mpg. That dish can't be very aerodynamic!

Good for DH. He needs some letters after his name. Especially when you get the title of Doctor before your name. My son can't wait for his wife to complete her doctorate. He has said, "Mom, you always wanted a doctor in the family...my wife will give you that."
DH is probably smiling about being the Prius driver. Even if he will have alot of commute and study time. Tell him to hang in there, it will all pay off eventually. Higher education has the best bang for the buck going.

Can't believe you put that ugly thing on the roof. There have to be more pleasing alternatives. Poor car. But I am sure that you get noticed on the road.

Maybe 160 every day in the Prius will start to cure that lead foot.

Good for him. Is it an associates in computers or technology? How long will it take? And will they get him a job when he finishes?

Yes I am nosy and no it isn't any of my business. But Galaxee can choose to tell me if she so desires.

he's going for an aas degree in biomedical equipment technology. he's gonna fix all the medical equipment that the docs use to fix him. it's two years including internships- the rest is good hope and that is all we have.

that said, funds will be low and any change in the car situation is pretty much not gonna happen. so i'll take the es250 and like it, but i will miss "my" car. but not as much as i'll miss my husband. :(

It's probably redundant to point out the many hints one could find
over at cleanmpg.com about driving non-hybrids for MPG... but there
are many, and those guys are pulling some amazing tanks.

Well, I'm sure all that time driving the Prius has taught you some good driving habits and you'll be able to use them to wring some extra mileage out of the awful, junkie Lexus.

At two years? It seems a long time now, but it will pass. And when it does you will both be in a better, more secure position. You will get through this. It is a shame hubby has to commute so far for the classes. But it could be worse. My Dad commuted from Fort Huachuca Arizona to San Diego California for a few years. Granted not every day. But he came home on weekends. Now that sucked.
