At almost 200k miles and i decided to clean it before a check-engine light come up (P0401)

Look at how dirty it was and shiny that I could clean, work every single minutes of my weekeend

And i saw that the previous owner does not installed gasket on the end of EGR cooler, Is it a must to install the EGR Cooler gasket?

I've tried to order it from an nearby autoparts store but it took me by around evening time of Sunday (today) to have it available in store to pick up

Sir, @Mendel Leisk , do you have idea if it's a must to install it back? Because when I took it apart, I did not see the gasket. Thank you Sir for advises!

And nice Sunday to you all
    Riley

How many miles on the odometer? You should have a gasket, and it should be available at Toyota parts department(s).

thanks for your advise, it's almost 200k miles this week. and from when i've took it apart, seem no one touch on this before, it's mostly lucky that it's not blown my head gaskets on my trips :)

If you had posted the flow numbers from before and after cleaning at that mileage, it would have given us a good data point.

Had you seen a check-engine light or P0401 yet?

It's a standard OBD "Mode 6" monitor test result; various scan tools and phone apps can bring it up. There are some examples in that linked thread.

Try looking at this post and the few after it in that thread I linked. Part way down on page 3 of the thread, the page I linked to.

It might have been there, and dropped when you pulled the cooler. That’s what happened to me. Have a look: mine dropped a little ways, not all the way through.

Here are my test value after test drive today

    MID:$21 TID:$a9
    - Catalyst Monitor Bank 1
    Max: 9.99393 Min: 0.24979
    Test result value: 0.25894
    PASS
    ----
    MID:$31 TID:$bd
    - EGR Monitor Bank 1
    Max: 655.34998kPa Min: 0.87kPa
    Test result value: 20.03kPa
    PASS

But during tonight ride, i suddently heard a sound from torque app that made me heart attack "inverter coolant overheat" and it pops up the screenshot as below with inv coolant = 170oC ????? OMG

Hope that's only a faulty issue with my OBD2 tool Screenshot_20220614-214959_Torque.jpg

Maybe the invertor pump is bad? And if you know the "obd tool" is bad, why trust it with
    any other reading?

That's right in the ballpark of results we've been seeing after full cleaning.

What would have been really interesting would be your number at almost 200k before cleaning.

yes, my bad that not thinking about that before doing my job so that we can have a clear before and after with a great 200k experience :)

Btw, do you have any suggest on how to test the inverter pump to make sure i'm ok on the inverter coolant overheat issue that shared above?

Loop Sir @Mendel Leisk in as well to advise :)

    thank you,

The typical check is to go look in the inverter coolant reservoir while the car is IG ON, and see if the coolant is turbulent.

In Gen 1 and Gen 2, the pump was just on or off, and ran whenever the car was IG ON, so that was easy.

In Gen 3 it's a variable-speed pump, and the ECU is more hands-on in controlling it, so the same check might not be quite as foolproof. On the other hand, the Gen 3 inverter pump has a tachometer, and if your scan tool shows you that PID ("Inverter W/P Revolution" is what it's called in Techstream), you can look at that. It's in the Hybrid Control data list.

in this case, i would like to buy a Techstream clone device from ebay/amazon to deeply investigate my issue, do you have any suggestion on a good tool as your experience? i see a lot of one selling on ebay now but not sure which one is good enough for Techstream testing?

I would suggest a forum search; you'll find a lot of those kinds of reports here, running from recent to years old. With older ones, some of the information may have gone out of date, but they can still be worth looking at. I don't really have anything to speak of that I could add myself to what's already here about that.

FWIW .......I sorta like the idea, that if "Toyota" thinks it should be there......it's OK with me! ........

    Hi @ChapmanF,
I've tried to check and test with Torque.

It's actually turbulent and the inverter pump also showed as attached pics.

And i have a camp trip on my prius this weekend, really concern about that but can not deeply check the issue w/o TechStream OBD2 cable? Hope that we have other way to double check so that i can have peace of mind for my trip :)

    Thank you,
